Milan Patel: Designing a New Legacy

Milan Patel turned personal pain points into India’s largest tile and sanitaryware experience.

From London Classrooms to Indian Showrooms

In a bustling sector where competition is fierce and customer expectations evolve rapidly, Milan Patel is quietly reshaping how India experiences tiles and sanitaryware. As the second-generation torchbearer of a family legacy deeply rooted in the tiles industry, Milan is not just preserving tradition—he’s pushing boundaries.

With an MBA from London and a fresh perspective shaped by global exposure, Milan Patel returned to India determined to leave his mark. “My father has been in the tiles industry for 25 years,” he shares. “After building my own home and experiencing the chaos of choosing the right products, I realized there was an opportunity to do things differently.”

And that’s how Sefar Design LLPwas born.

Laying the Foundation: A Personal Project Turned Vision

For Milan, the spark didn’t come from a business plan drafted over lattes—it came from a deeply personal project. “The inspiration came when I was constructing my own house. That process taught me how overwhelming it can be for customers to navigate product options, vendors, and the lack of guidance in design-centric buying.”

His journey from a frustrated homeowner to an entrepreneur revealed a huge gap in the market. While product availability wasn’t the issue, customer experience certainly was. “People fear change. There’s hesitation, a lack of confidence in speaking with vendors—sometimes due to language barriers or just the sheer overload of options,” he explains.

Milan saw a way to simplify the process, educate customers, and create a more curated, immersive experience in tile and sanitaryware retail. Thus, Sefar Design LLP wasn’t just a business—it was a solution born out of real-world pain points.

The Road Less Traveled: Breaking Through Market Barriers

Starting a business in a crowded, traditional sector is not for the faint of heart. Milan faced pushback from multiple fronts. “Competitors were established and had strong customer bases. Our location was new, and gaining trust wasn’t easy,” he recalls. “Product knowledge was another barrier—I had to upskill quickly to earn credibility in front of customers.”

But Milan wasn’t deterred. With a strong academic foundation and the grit inherited from his father, he rolled up his sleeves and got to work. Through continuous learning and adapting to customer feedback, Sefar Design began carving out its niche.

One of the most distinctive decisions Milan made was to invest heavily in product display and experience, a move that would soon become a game-changer.

India’s Largest Display: The Turning Point

For most startups, a turning point is a gradual curve. For Sefar Design, it was a bold, visible leap.

“We decided to create India’s largest display of tiles and sanitaryware,” Milan says with unmistakable pride. “It wasn’t just about showcasing products—it was about helping customers visualize their spaces and feel confident in their choices.”

The expansive showroom didn’t just attract customers—it drew attention from industry leaders and suppliers. It became a hub for interior designers, architects, and homeowners looking for both inspiration and reliability. The display became the brand's signature—transforming how people shop for tiles, making it a tactile, immersive journey rather than a transactional experience.

Offering More Than Just Products

At its core, Sefar Design LLPprovides high-quality tiles and sanitaryware, but Milan is quick to clarify: “We’re not just selling products—we’re selling trust, design clarity, and a better experience.”

This customer-first ethos is what differentiates Sefar Design from generic retail outlets. The company’s curated approach, knowledge-backed staff, and innovative display concepts make shopping intuitive and satisfying.

And Milan isn’t stopping there.

The Road Ahead: Scaling Up with Purpose

Looking to the next five years, Milan has big plans. “We’re working on expanding into new marketsand launching new industrial plantsfor a range of products,” he reveals. It’s a move that signals vertical integration, greater control over quality, and improved distribution.

The goal? To become a pan-India brandknown not just for the range of its offerings, but for transforming the way tiles and sanitaryware are marketed and sold.

The expansion is also a nod to sustainability and local manufacturing—a move likely to resonate with India’s increasingly conscious consumers.

Lessons from the Ground: Words of Wisdom for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Milan’s journey is a masterclass in turning a personal problem into a market opportunity. His experience holds powerful lessons for budding founders navigating their own uncertain paths.

“Don’t underestimate the value of listening to the market,” he advises. “Customers will show you what they need if you pay close enough attention.”

He also emphasizes the importance of education and upskilling—especially when entering an industry with entrenched players. “You can’t rely on a fancy degree alone. Real credibility comes when you know your product better than anyone else.”

And perhaps most importantly, Milan champions the courage to stand out. “Fear of change is everywhere—among consumers and even within yourself as a founder. But if you’re not challenging the status quo, you’re just adding to the noise.”

Building More Than Business

Milan Patel is not just running a tiles company—he’s redefining what it means to be customer-centric in a legacy-driven industry. Through Sefar Design LLP, he is proving that with the right blend of empathy, innovation, and grit, even the most traditional sectors can be transformed.

His story is a reminder that success doesn’t always come from chasing trends—it can also come from solving old problems in new ways.

As Sefar Design expands its footprint and builds new industrial capabilities, one thing is certain: Milan’s vision will continue to elevate the standard for what customers should expect when designing the spaces they call home.
