Powering Change: How Prahlad Choudhary is Building a Cleaner, Smarter EV Ecosystem with INDI Electric

From a farmer’s son to co-founder of INDI Electric, Prahlad Choudhary is reshaping India’s EV landscape. With a dealer-first, full-stack model, INDI Electric bridges market gaps—making electric mobility accessible, sustainable, and scalable across India’s heartland.

From Jaipur’s Fields to India’s EV Frontlines

In a sun-drenched village on the outskirts of Jaipur, a young boy watched his father toil in the fields, absorbing the values of hard work, resilience, and the quiet dignity of building something from the ground up. That boy grew up to be Prahlad Choudhary, co-founder of INDI Electric Eels Private Limited, one of the fastest-growing electric vehicle (EV) startups in North India.

“I come from a farmer’s family,” Prahlad says with pride. “That upbringing shaped my work ethic and grounded my ambitions in reality.” With a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and years of experience at companies like Hero Electric and Okinawa Scooters, Prahlad’s career journey was already rooted in clean mobility. But it wasn’t until after the first COVID wave in 2020 that he saw his true calling.

The Spark that Ignited INDI Electric

While working with major EV players, Prahlad began to notice a troubling pattern. “There was a clear disconnect between OEMs and their dealer partners,” he recalls. “These gaps created inefficiencies—financially and operationally—impacting everyone from manufacturers to end-users.”

This insight became the driving force behind INDI Electric Eels Private Limited, co-founded in May 2023 with longtime friend and business partner Sachin Dev. With just ₹10 lakh in borrowed funds and a bold vision, they set out to redefine how electric vehicles were sold, serviced, and supported in India’s heartland.

Today, just a year later, INDI Electric boasts a valuation of over ₹10 crore and a dealer network spanning 50+ partners across Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Bridging the EV Gap: A Full-Stack Solution

What sets INDI Electric apart is its holistic business model. Not content with simply manufacturing electric vehicles and batteries, the startup offers sales, service, and spares support through its network of dealers.

“We’re not just selling vehicles—we’re building an ecosystem,” explains Prahlad. “Our dealers are at the core of this model, and our success is tied directly to their growth.”

This full-stack approach has enabled INDI Electric to deliver a seamless customer experience while empowering local entrepreneurs—an intentional strategy that aligns with the company's mission: to build a profitable and sustainable EV business model that benefits OEMs, dealers, and customers alike.

Potholes on the Path: Overcoming Early-Stage Challenges

Like most startups, INDI Electric’s road to success wasn’t without its bumps. “Funding at the initial stage was a big challenge,” admits Prahlad. “Setting up a manufacturing plant is capital-intensive, and EV retail financing wasn’t easily available.”

But with grit, strategic planning, and an unwavering belief in their vision, the founders managed to bootstrap operations and steadily scale. “Our turning point came when we crossed the ₹10 crore valuation mark. It wasn’t just about numbers—it validated our model and gave us the confidence to expand.”

The Road Ahead: Scaling Smartly, Growing Sustainably

As for the future, Prahlad isn’t just dreaming big—he’s building big. Over the next five years, INDI Electric aims to become a trusted national brand known for innovation, reliability, and long-term partnerships.

“We’re focused on R&D, expanding our product lineup, and bringing smarter mobility solutions to more cities and towns,” he says. “But we won’t lose sight of our core values—integrity, sustainability, and community impact.”

Lessons from the Founder’s Desk

Prahlad’s journey offers invaluable insights for aspiring entrepreneurs:

  • Start with purpose: “We didn’t chase trends. We responded to a real problem we had seen firsthand.”

  • Think beyond funding: “Money is important, but your network, reputation, and execution matter more in the long run.”

  • Build ecosystems, not silos: “We succeed when our dealers succeed. That’s what keeps our growth organic and sustainable.”

A Movement, Not Just a Business

What began as an effort to bridge gaps in a fragmented industry has grown into a movement to make electric mobility more accessible, profitable, and future-ready. INDI Electric isn't just riding the EV wave—it’s helping shape its course in India.

For Prahlad Choudhary, this is just the beginning. “We have a long road ahead, but we’re committed to driving change—one vehicle, one partnership, one community at a time.”
