“We are not just digitizing labs. We’re using digital technologies to solve real problems and help lab owners manage their labs better.”
— Abhishek Srivastava
The Early Sparks of Innovation
For Abhishek Srivastava, founder and CEO of Labsmart Healthcare Technologies, the entrepreneurial journey began not in a sleek co-working space or a VC pitch room, but amidst test tubes, patient files, and the hum of pathology machines.
“I come from a family of lab owners, my parents, uncles, and extended relatives all ran diagnostic labs,” Abhishek recalls. “I spent most of my free time in the lab, learning the ropes, watching the day-to-day challenges unfold.”
It wasn’t one defining moment from childhood that led to Labsmart, but rather a gradual realization over years of continuous observation. Witnessing how manual reporting systems and outdated DOS-based software hampered efficiency and accuracy, Abhishek began seeing a clear opportunity. That growing awareness would eventually lead to a purpose-driven startup.
After graduating with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering from PESIT College in Bangalore, Abhishek started his career at Mavenhire as a software developer. But the labs of his upbringing remained a constant reference point.
“The idea for Labsmart came when I realized that small and medium-sized labs lacked access to affordable, reliable lab management software,” he says. “The gap was obvious.”

The MVP Built on Raspberry Pi
The turning point came when Abhishek decided to act on that gap. He began building a minimum viable product (MVP), not on a high-end server, but using a Raspberry Pi. The goal was to create a tool for his own family lab, and from there, evolve it into a scalable platform.
Then came a wave of digital transformation across India. The 2016 launch of Jio brought affordable internet to even the remotest corners of the country, and suddenly, a cloud-based SaaS model became not just viable, but necessary.
“That’s when we moved from Raspberry Pi to a web-based application,” Abhishek explains. “It opened up the possibility of reaching thousands of labs across the country, not just my own family’s.”
Bridging the Digital Divide in Healthcare
Work on what would eventually become Labsmart Healthcare Technologies began in 2017, when Abhishek started building an MVP to solve problems in his own lab. The official company registration came years later.
At the time, most lab software providers were building for large diagnostic centers, focusing on feature-heavy and expensive solutions that small and medium-sized labs couldn’t afford or adopt easily. Labsmart took a different path—choosing to focus on smaller labs, keeping affordability and simplicity at the core of its product.
Labsmart’s cloud-based software allows labs to manage everything from patient registration to test reporting and business analytics on a single platform. But beyond features, Abhishek highlights two critical differentiators:
And the numbers speak for themselves. Today, Labsmart serves over 1,500 labs with more than 4,000 daily users. Even more telling, the platform boasts over 400 Google reviews with an average rating of 4.8 stars, a rare feat in the enterprise software world.
Bootstrapping, Burnout, and Breakthroughs
Like many early-stage founders, Abhishek’s journey hasn’t been without trials.
“In the beginning, it was just me and Deepa,” he shares. “I was building the product, and she was handling sales.”
As the user base grew, so did the feature requests and the pressure.
“I was the only developer, and the demands kept piling up. I’d give shorter timelines just because I wanted to help. But it wasn’t sustainable.”
On top of the development crunch, Abhishek struggled with sales and marketing, areas he admits he had little experience in.
“Being a developer, I could build a product. But reaching the right audience, that was a whole different game.”
He immersed himself in learning digital marketing, experimenting with campaigns, and analyzing what worked and what didn’t. Slowly, the pieces began to fall into place.
Team building posed another hurdle.
“We were bootstrapped, so we couldn’t offer high salaries. Convincing people to join a tiny team with a big dream wasn’t easy.”
But those who did, he says, became integral parts of Labsmart’s foundation.
Proving the Indian SaaS Skeptics Wrong
Perhaps the most validating moment came when customers began renewing their subscriptions without any nudging. That, Abhishek says, was the company’s biggest turning point.
“It shattered the myth that Indian customers won’t pay for software. They do, when you offer real value.”
This silent but powerful signal gave him the confidence to keep improving the product and scaling operations. It proved that Labsmart wasn’t just a helpful tool, it was becoming mission-critical for hundreds of diagnostic labs.
Building a World-Class Product from India
Looking ahead, Abhishek has bold ambitions for Labsmart. He envisions growing the platform to serve over 5,000 active labs in the next five years. But more than numbers, his focus is on building a product that resonates with the Indian market.
“We want to build a world-class SaaS product from India, one that lab owners across the world trust and love.”
Internally, the roadmap includes strengthening teams across sales, marketing, and development, and creating a scalable, sustainable engine for growth. The core philosophy remains unchanged: keep solving real problems for real users.
The Road Ahead
As India's healthcare sector continues its march toward digitization, platforms like Labsmart play a vital role in ensuring that even the smallest diagnostic labs can thrive in the digital age.
With a deep personal connection to the industry, a developer’s mindset, and an unwavering commitment to solving real problems, Abhishek Srivastava is quietly reshaping how labs operate in India—one report, one registration, one trusted and all-in-one software platform at a time.
